My name is Brian Mason. I work out of my home in Chanhassen. I've worked with computers since the 3rd grade. My first computer was an Apple II with 32K of memory! I was a translator in at Field Station Berlin in the Army for three years. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the U of MN (B.A. Economics - with Quantitative Emphasis). That's as dry a field as it sounds! So I started Computer Update in the summer of 1996 and have found it to be a rewarding experience. I was a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MSCE 2003) and was awarded (12 years) MVP status from Microsoft for my help in the SMS 2003 and System Center Configuration Manager online communities. I also work for a major financial company where using Configuration Manager, I manage over 420K workstations and servers.
I wrote a book back in 2012. Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager: Administration Cookbook and was the tech reviewer for the second edition.
When Microsoft killed off its Microsoft Management Summit, I invented the Midwest Management Summit in its place. It's been widely successful with 1-2 conferences a year. Around 750 techs fly in each year to go into deep sessions on systems management. Meeting others who have the same issues helps us become better techs. Attend a user group or our conference and you'll make friends with whom you can share strategies and experiences for years to come.
I'm also the proud dad of 3 kids and 6 grandchildren. I love wine and film scores.
